On a keto diet, grain-based flour is avoided due to its high carb content. Flours from grains like wheat, barley are not keto-friendly foods because they are in high in carbs. Here are some suggestions on best keto-friendly flour that can be used in recipes.
- Almond flour: Almond flour is rich in protein, manganese, vitamin E, monounsaturated fats, and low in carbohydrates, and contains fibre. It’s an excellent product for your health when you are following a keto diet.
- Coconut flour: Coconut flour is a gluten-free flour solely made from coconuts. This flour is rich in fibre, protein and MCT thus it promotes good digestion and maintains heart health. This delicious flour helps in boosting weight loss. Coconut flour is best in sweet recipes.
- Oat fibre: Oats contain antioxidants, that can lower cholesterol level and blood sugar. It is rich in fibres and protein and helps in weight loss. Oats are high in carb but oat fibre is darker and denser than oat flour
These flours are the most commonly used flours on a keto diet. You can even use chia seed flour, walnut flour, hazelnut flour, pecan flour among others as keto-friendly flours.
