What are the methods to measure ketone levels? Find out

Your body weight can vary throughout the day but this won’t let you know whether you are actually burning body fat. Production of ketones is a direct result of fat burning. Therefore measuring ketone levels can help to know whether weight loss is occurring.

The ketones levels in the body may change throughout the day in response to the food we eat and the rate of metabolism.

Here are the different methods to measure ketones.

Urine Strips: Urine testing strips are less expensive than other methods. The results from the urine tests reflect ketone levels over the past few hours rather than at the time of testing. This method is good if you just want to get a rough idea of the level of ketosis.

Blood Ketone Meter: Blood tests are the most accurate method of measuring ketone levels. They are quite expensive than other methods.

Breath Meters: It is possible to measure ketones on the breath. It involves a single initial cost only.  This method is not as accurate as blood ketone tests but is better than urine test strips.

When you follow a keto diet, measuring is very useful to make sure that you are in ketosis. Being in ketosis means that your body can efficiently burn fat and use it as fuel.
